The appointment strengthen's India's voice among automobile manufacturers and policymaking bodies on the international stage.

Gaurav Gupta, President – India 2W Business, TVS Motor Company, will be the next Vice President of the International Motorcycle Manufacturers Association (IMMA). He will represent SIAM, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

This is the second time a senior executive of an Indian automobile manufacturer has been elected to a senior leadership position at the IMMA, following Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director, Bajaj Auto, who served as President between 2020 and 2023, and was Vice President prior to that in 2019.

This development also comes just a month after Tata Motors' Shailesh Chandra became the first Indian to become President of the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles (OICA).

IMMA, which bills itself as “the voice of the global motorcycle industry” is comprised of representatives of the national associations of powered two- and three-wheeler manufacturers from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam. The Geneva-based organisation’s aim is to promote safe, sustainable, socially responsible and economically viable motorcycling.

It has also influenced international policymaking for almost 70 years, in order to standardise vehicle specifications across the world, with contributions to the the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations and the Global Forum for Road Traffic Safety under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The IMMA also contributes to multiple influential bodies under the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as well as the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC).  It joined the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) in 2013 to strengthen collaboration with the World Health Organization and promote road safety for powered bike and three-wheeler users.
