Gemini with Personal Intelligence is now available globally on Android Auto, with availability for cars with Google built-in expanding over coming months.

Google has announced the global rollout of Gemini AI’s Personal Intelligence to vehicle cockpits. This feature enables the AI assistant to retrieve contextual information from connected Google applications, delivering highly customised hands-free assistance while driving on the road.

With explicit user permission, Personal Intelligence is claimed to securely link data from everyday Google services, including Google Workspace applications such as Gmail and Google Calendar, alongside Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Search. The system relies on retrieving specific details from saved emails, photos, or pin locations, applying reasoning across complex data streams to answer driver queries without requiring manual phone searches or repetitive contextual explanations.

The integration allows drivers to execute complex, multi-step requests naturally through voice commands. For instance, on the way to an airport, drivers can check flight gate information and real-time delay status in a single prompt. The assistant can also provide route-based restaurant recommendations tailored to specific dietary preferences like vegetarian dining, start navigation to a doctor appointment without typing an address, locate a car wash based on a photo taken the previous week, or resume a past conversation to navigate to a coffee shop discussed earlier.

Google emphasises that Personal Intelligence is designed with privacy controls at its foundation. The integration functions strictly on an opt-in basis, allowing users to connect or disconnect individual applications at any time through their Gemini settings. Furthermore, vehicles with Google built-in will share personalised responses only when the user's smartphone is actively connected inside the car.
