Nvidia's Sri Subramanian highlights GenAI's role in transforming India's SDV market, urging "made-for-India" solutions for global leadership.
At the 65th SIAM Annual Convention, Sri Subramanian, Global Head of GenAI for Automotive at Nvidia, claimed that Generative AI (GenAI) is poised to transform India's automotive landscape by powering software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
Subramanian highlighted GenAI's evolution from traditional neural networks to multimodal capabilities, converting text-to-image, video synthesis, and vice versa, offering transformative applications.
This technology drives over-the-air (OTA) updates, enhancing vehicle functionality, and powers advanced voice assistants and cloud-based ideation, critical for India's expanding tech ecosystem. With India's SDV market projected to rise from 2 million units in 2025 to 6 million by 2034, GenAI's 30-40% productivity boost in efficiency can optimise customer service, automation, and predictive maintenance, addressing local cost and operational needs.
He outlined four key verticals. First, Autonomous Driving (AV 2.0): Transitioning from L2 hands-on to L4 hands-off systems relies on GPU-powered simulations, vital for developing robust autonomous navigation as India's road infrastructure improves. Second, enterprise AI: Tools like vModel use agents for coding, security, and design, reducing simulation times from 15 hours to 10 seconds, accelerating vehicle design and automating contact centres with enhanced manuals.
Third, industrial AI: End-to-end digitisation via high-performance compute enhances CAE, visual inspections, and connected factories, with humanoid robotics and digital twins optimising supply chains for India's manufacturing growth. Fourth, in-cabin experiences: GenAI enables personalised interactions via reasoning agents, detecting flat tyres, scheduling repairs with calendar integration, and retaining memory, enhancing user experience in India's diverse market.
Subramanian stated that Indian SDV market is at a pivotal moment, driven by consumer demand for connected features and transformation, with GenAI as a core enabler.
Indian automakers and tech companies demonstrate remarkable agility and innovation by developing locally tailored solutions, positioning them to compete globally. This requires heavy investment in AI initiatives, infrastructure, and workforce training, alongside strategic collaborations. Key verticals include Autonomous Driving/ADAS, Enterprise/Agetic AI, In-vehicle AI, and Industrial AI, necessitating tools and support for effective AI deployment.
By continuing to develop "made-for-India" solutions, India can move beyond being a market to a co-leader in designing safe, smart, and sustainable mobility solutions.
