Goa government has suspended Ola Electric’s trade licence, halted sales, and is helping customers seek legal relief, following widespread complaints about poor service and unresolved technical issues with Ola’s electric vehicles.
The Goa government has taken decisive action against Ola Electric following a surge in consumer complaints regarding poor after-sales service and unresolved technical issues with the company’s electric vehicles.
The directorate of transport has indefinitely suspended Ola Electric’s trade licence certificate in the state, effectively halting all vehicle sales until a pending hearing is concluded.
This move comes after the transport department received multiple grievances from customers, many of whom reported prolonged delays in servicing, lack of spare parts, and recurring technical faults such as rapid battery drain and malfunctioning electronic control modules (ECM).
During inspections, it was found that over 100 electric vehicles were awaiting repairs at Ola’s service centres, with mechanics citing manpower shortages and unavailability of essential components as key reasons for the backlog.
Ola Electric currently operates two outlets in Goa, located in Vasco and Margao. A third proposed outlet in Bicholim was recently denied a trade licence by the directorate of transport, further tightening regulatory oversight on the company’s operations in the state.
In response to the suspension, Ola Electric representatives met with the transport director to present measures taken to address the situation, including a significant increase in service manpower and procurement of necessary spare parts.
The company claims that most of the pending service requests will be resolved soon. However, the directorate has stated that the suspension will remain in effect until compliance is verified through site inspections by regional transport offices.
To support affected consumers, the directorate of transport is actively assisting customers in filing complaints in consumer court. Free legal aid is being provided to help draft and submit petitions, ensuring that grievances are formally addressed and monetary relief can be sought.
