Google Maps on Android Auto will soon let users easily filter EV charging stations by speed and payment method directly from Settings, making it more convenient to find ideal charging points while driving.
Google Maps on Android Auto is set to make it much easier for electric vehicle (EV) users to find suitable charging stations, thanks to an upcoming update that streamlines access to charging filters. Currently, users must go through several steps to filter charging stations by speed, making the process less convenient during travel.
With the new update, users will soon be able to access charging filters directly from the Settings menu in Google Maps on Android Auto. This change will allow drivers to quickly filter charging stations based on charging speed and payment method, without having to initiate a search first.
These updates are currently being tested in the beta version of Android Auto and are expected to roll out more widely in the near future. The update aims to make EV ownership more convenient by simplifying the process of finding compatible charging stations on the go.
The filters will include options for slow charging (up to 49 kW), quick charging (50 kW or higher), and a “Customise” setting. The Customise menu will offer more granular choices, such as up to 9 kW, 10 to 49 kW, 50 to 149 kW, 150 to 349 kW, and 350 kW and above, with the ability to select multiple options at once.
In addition to charging speed, Google is also introducing a payment method filter. This will enable users to search for charging stations that accept specific payment options, which may vary by country. For instance, in India, only the Blink Network is currently visible, while in the US, options like Google Pay may be available.
Once users set their preferred filters, Google Maps will remember these choices, eliminating the need to repeatedly adjust settings for future searches. However, those who prefer the previous method can still filter results after starting a search.
