GreenCell Mobility is scaling up security on its electric buses in India with an emphasis on passenger safety, real-time technology and operational discipline, the company announced on Tuesday. The Eversource Capital-backed company looks to set a new standard for urban public transport. Each bus in GreenCell's fleet comes fitted with multi-camera surveillance, GPS-based tracking, real-time vehicle health monitoring and passenger information systems, allowing the company to maintain continuous oversight, respond quickly to incidents and build passenger confidence.
Safety provisions also include panic buttons, wheelchair accessibility ramps, fire extinguishers and seat belts, with dedicated emergency response measures in place for women passengers.
To manage these standards across a growing operation, GreenCell runs centralised command centres for live fleet monitoring and carries out daily breath analyser tests for drivers alongside a performance-based grading system.
Regular training, including covering safety workshops, refresher modules, driver coaching and battery management are done for operational reliability across the workforce.
Notably, GreenCell currently runs more than 1,500 electric buses across 17 cities in five states, with services active in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Delhi, Puducherry and Gujarat. The company is targeting an expansion to more than 30 cities across 10 states with a fleet of 4,500 buses.
