Harley-Davidson has recently outlined its Back to Bricks strategy. Alongside, the company has also teased an all-new Sprint and revived air-cooled Sportster 883.
Harley-Davidson has provided fresh insight into its new Back to Bricks strategy during its first quarter financial results, while hinting at a major product reset at the entry level of its range.
Alongside a broad outline of its future roadmap, the American manufacturer previewed two upcoming models, the all new Sprint and a revived air-cooled Sportster that will sit as an accessible gateway to the brand.
Simple line sketches released by the company confirm a return to the traditional air cooled Sportster format. The earlier generation of air-cooled Sportsters was withdrawn globally in 2022 as tightening emission norms made the long running Evolution engines difficult to certify. Since then, the Sportster name has survived only on the liquid cooled Sportster S and Nightster models, both powered by the 1,252 cc Revolution Max V twin.
The new teaser, however, signals Harley-Davidson’s intention to reconnect with its classic V twin feel that long time customers associate with the Sportster badge. Pricing guidance of about 10,000 USD, roughly ₹9.43 lakh, points strongly to a smaller 883 cc Evolution engine rather than the larger 1,200 cc unit.
The silhouette in the sketches is also reminiscent of the earlier Sportster 883, with low stance, minimal bodywork and familiar retro cruiser proportions.
Chief executive Jochen Zeitz has indicated that the returning Sportster will be central to Harley-Davidson’s plan to make the brand more attainable for new riders. At the suggested price, it is likely to become the most affordable Harley in many markets.
In India, the previous Sportster 883, sold as the Iron 883, had already built a loyal following for its classic look and relaxed riding manners. Given that strong recall, the company could evaluate an Indian relaunch once the new air cooled Sportster is ready for production.
