Hero MotoCorp had filed a case of brand name copying against Urban Electric Mobility, and Galaxy EV.
The Delhi High Court has ruled in favour of Hero MotoCorp in a brand-name copying case. The motorcycle giant owns the legal rights to names like 'DESTINY', 'DESTINI' and 'DESTINI PRIME' for scooters. However, Urban Electric Mobility, which trades as Urban ebikes, was manufacturing scooters called 'DESTINY' and 'DESTINY+'. Meanwhile, Galaxy EV was selling scooters under the names 'DESTINY' and 'DESTINY PRO'. Some of these companies were even boldly using the 'HERO' name itself. On August 13, Justice Tejas Karia ordered several electric scooter companies to immediately stop using names that were too similar to Hero's registered trademarks.

What Was Hero MotoCorp’s Argument?
Hero argued that these companies were deliberately trying to confuse customers and make them think their scooters were somehow connected to the established Hero brand. The unfair practice was damaging its business that could lead to potential long-term harm in its market position, the brand argued.
What Did The Court Say?
Justice Tejas Karia agreed with Hero's arguments, stating that the company had presented a strong case requiring urgent court intervention. The judge found that allowing these other companies to continue using the disputed names would cause serious and permanent damage to Hero's business interests. He noted that the situation clearly favoured Hero over the defendants.

The Result
The court has now banned Urban Electric Mobility, Galaxy EV, and all their associated staff from manufacturing, selling, or advertising any scooters using names like 'DESTINY', 'DESTINY+', 'DESTINY PRO', or any other names that sound or look similar to Hero's registered trademarks. This ban applies to all forms of promotion, including online websites, social media platforms, and traditional advertising methods.
