The new base E MT variant loses several features, but costs almost ₹1 lakh less than the previous base variant.
In a bid to make its Rumion MPV even more affordable, Toyota India has introduced a new entry-level E MT variant priced at ₹9.55 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). The seven-seater Rumion can now be bought for nearly ₹1 lakh less than the previous S MT base variant, which costs ₹10.51 lakhs. As its name suggests, this is a manual transmission variant, and is only available with a petrol engine. There are no price adjustments for the other variants, though Toyota did raise prices earlier this year after reducing them last year in line with industry-wide GST cuts.
The Toyota Rumion is a badge-engineered twin of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, and is positioned below Toyota’s popular Innova Crysta MPV. It also competes with the just-launched Nissan Gravite, the updated Renault Triber, and the Kia Carens.
While the new base E MT variant loses several features, it is available in the same five colours as the rest of the model lineup: Spunky Blue, Rustic Brown, Iconic Grey, Cafe White, and Enticing Silver.
Compared to the S MT trim, the new E MT version lacks a few design touches and convenience features. Most notably, it doesn’t have any infotainment or even basic music system, a second-row AC vent or USB Type-C port in the centre console, remote keyless entry, auto window up (anti-pinch) or day and night adjustable IRVM.
The ORVMs are not body-coloured, are not electrically adjustable, and do not have integrated turn indicators. Door handles are also not body-coloured, and some chrome finishes have been done away with. It also lacks seat-back pockets, a front sliding armrest, and a passenger sun visor with mirror.
However, buyers will still get halogen projector headlamps, LED taillamps, second-row 60:40 split seats with one-touch recline and slide, 50:50 third-row reclining seats, adjustable headrests for all seats, and power and tilt steering. Safety features are also taken care of, with dual front, front-side and curtain airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, hill hold assist, height-adjustable front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters, ISOFIX child seat anchors for the second row, rear parking sensors, and central locking.
