Hero MotoCorp recently updated the Splendor+ Xtec with a disc brake.
Does the recently updated Hero Splendor+ Xtec make more sense now when you compare it with the Honda Shine 100, which in a very short span of time has also become quite the relevant option in the commuter space? Without much ado, let's see how these two popular choices stack up against each other.
Specifications | Hero Splendor+ Xtec | Honda Shine 100 |
---|---|---|
Displacement | 97.2 cc | 98.9 cc |
Power | 7.9 bhp | 7.2 bhp |
Torque | 8 Nm | 8 Nm |
Transmission | 4-speed | 4-speed |
Mileage (Claimed) | 73 kmpl | 68 kmpl |
Both bikes have the same single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, but the Hero Splendor+ Xtec features a slightly smaller capacity at 97.2 cc, while the Honda packs in a 99.8 cc engine. Despite that, the Honda Shine 100 produces slightly less power and torque, ideally making it more fuel-efficient than the Hero.
Honda claims that the Shine 100 can deliver up to 68 km, which is quite a significant number, especially when you compare it with Hero’s claim of 73 km. Either way, both motorcycles come with a 4-speed gearbox.
Specification | Hero Splendro+ Xtec | Honda Shine 100 |
---|---|---|
Frame | Double-Cradle Frame | Diamond Frame |
Front Suspension | Telescopic Fork | Telescopic Fork |
Rear Suspension | Dual-Shock Absorber | Dual-Shock Absorber |
Front Brake | Drum Brake/ Disc Brake | Drum Brake |
Rear Brake | Drum Brake | Drum Brake |
Both bikes employ a similar suspension setup; however, they differ in their frame designs. The Hero Splendor+ Xtec uses a tried-and-tested double cradle frame, while the Honda Shine 100 features a new diamond frame that provides increased rigidity and stability.
For braking, both motorcycles rely on drum brakes for both front and rear wheels, but Hero MotoCorp recently took it up a notch by introducing a disc brake for the front wheel with the top variant. The wheel sizes differ slightly, with the Hero Splendor sporting 18-inch wheels on both ends; the Honda Shine opts for 17-inch wheels.
Specifications | Hero Splendor+ Xtec | Honda Shine 100 |
---|---|---|
Length | 2000 mm | 1955 mm |
Width | 720 mm | 754 mm |
Height | 1052 mm | 1050 mm |
Kerb Weight | 112 kg | 99 kg |
Wheelbase | 1236 mm | 1245 mm |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 9.8-litres | 9-litre |
Seat Height | 785 mm | 786 mm |
The Hero Splendor+ Xtec feels and reads like a larger motorcycle, especially in length, width, and height. On the other hand, despite its compact proportions, the Honda Shine 100 has a longer wheelbase here, which indicates that it should have a longer seat than the Splendor.
The Japanese bike also has a smaller fuel tank, which significantly helps its case to cut down on some weight, making it the nimbler of the two to handle. But with a slightly bigger tank, the Splendor edges past with a slightly better mileage. However, both bikes have nearly identical seat heights, so accessibility is not an issue with either of them.
The Hero Splendor+ Xtec shines (yes, pun intended) in the features department, offering Bluetooth connectivity, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a USB charger. The Honda Shine 100 keeps things basic with an analogue cluster. We understand the reason behind this, which has been explained below.
By keeping matters basic, Honda has managed to keep the Shine 100 at quite the competitive price range.
The top variant of the Hero Splendor+ Xtec with disc brake will set you back ₹83,461 (ex-showroom, Delhi), and the base model is priced at ₹79,911 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Honda Shine 100 is available in just one variant, and it is priced at ₹64,900 (ex-showroom). This price difference between the top Splendor variant and the Shine makes the Honda considerably more affordable, potentially influencing buyers who prioritize cost-effectiveness over features.
