This should help Hero position its upcoming electric scooter at a much affordable price.
Hero’s all-electric sub-brand, Vida, is inching closer to launching its new electric scooter, the VX2. The latest announcement from the brand states that it will introduce the Battery-As-A-Service (BaaS) Subscription model with the upcoming electric scooter.
While this is a first for the marque, BaaS has been implemented by several in the industry, from four-wheeler brands like MG to even two-wheeler startups like Lectrix and Zeno. By offering the battery as a separate purchase, auto manufacturers can price their all-electric offerings at a very affordable price, wherein one will just need to pay for the vehicle. This will allow Vida to do the same as well.

Thus, this will position the Vida VX2 as a really affordable electric scooter, especially when compared to its competition, which includes the TVS iQube with a 2 kWh battery, Ola S1 X, and the Ather Rizta. While we still don’t know about the battery capacity that the Vida VX2 will come with, currently, Hero has two battery offerings: 2.2 kWh and 3.4 kWh. Whether it will be equipped the same as BaaS or not remains to be seen.
If you want to avail the Vida VX2 with the battery as well, then Hero MotoCorp will also offer a “Pay-as-you-Go” ownership model, wherein one can pay as per their usage. This should help reduce upfront capital expenditure significantly and further into manageable monthly payments.
We do not know how successful this model would turn out for electric two-wheelers. Bounce Infinity tried this trick a couple of years ago and it didn’t fare well. Honda has a similar pricing plan for the Activa e: and it makes the decision of buying an electric scooter futile. Hope, Hero does better than its former partner in this regard, though.
