Honda commenced its India journey in the electric scooter by riding in the new Honda Activa e: electric scooter. The scooter doesn’t come with a fixed battery but rather gets removable and swappable batteries. In fact, there is no charging system on the Honda Activa e:. To handle this, the Japanese brand has set up the Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited (HEID), a subsidiary entity which will handle the battery swap service business. Honda announced that operations of the Honda Active e: for swapping at HEID will commence in Bengaluru from February 2025, while from April, 2025 in New Delhi and Mumbai. The above also hits that deliveries for the Honda electric scooter will start in February with the first destination being Bengaluru.
President & CMD, Honda Power Pack Energy India, Takuya Taniguchi said “HEID would focus on three actions, which are continuously expanding its battery swap network, ensuring the reliable service with a highly integrated system monitoring every unique battery and exchanger, and supporting customers to ensure superior battery swap experience. HEID contributes toward the realization of carbon neutrality and greener future of India by pursuing the penetration of battery swap solution”.
Honda plans to establish 250 battery swapping stations in Bengaluru, 150 stations in New Delhi and around 100 in Mumbai by March 2025. At the launch, the company had claimed that these battery swapping stations will be located within km of each other. For this, HEID has already partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited and Honda dealerships as well.
