Does having two swappable battery packs on board give Honda Activa e: the advantage to travel further than its rivals?
Honda has finally entered the hotly contested electric scooter domain. The new Activa e: is going to be its most premium offering in this space and it will be the first in the segment to come with dual-swappable batteries as the only option. Will that give it an edge over its competition, which includes some pretty well-established names? Check out the table below:
Honda Activa e: | Bajaj Chetak 3201 | Ather Rizta Z With 3.7 kWh battery | TVS iQube S with 3.4 kWh battery | |
Battery | Dual Swappable Battery, 1.5 kWh Each - 3 kWh (total) | 3.2 kWh | 3.7 kWh | 3.4 kWh |
Charging Time (0-80 Per Cent) | No Charging only battery swap option | 3 Hours 35 Mins | 4 hours 30 minutes | 4 hours 30 minutes |
Range (Claimed) | 102 km | 103 km | 100 km | 100 km |
Price (Ex-showroom) | Not Yet Announced | ₹1,27,244 | ₹1,46,499 | ₹1,44,420 |
Despite two batteries on board, the total output capacity of the Honda Activa e: is still more or less on par with its competition. Due to this, the range on offer here is also similar to its peers and, in some cases, slightly better. While both the TVS iQube S and Ather Rizta offer similar ranges, the Bajaj Chetak 3201 here gets the better of the Honda by just 1 more kilometre.
But where Honda leaps by manifolds is with zero charge time, because all you need to do is just swap the depleted battery at a battery swapping station. And while this flexibility will be a big boon for some, this very nicheness might kill its credibility initially. This technology not only comes at the cost of zero boot space, but Honda’s swappable battery stations are also not that widespread at the moment. So, as novel and genuine as the new Honda Activa e: may sound, its competition will continue to have an edge over the Japanese scooter.
