The company confirmed that the sale was completed in April 2023.
In a significant development for Gujarat’s industrial landscape, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) has sold its 380-acre land parcel in Vithalapur, near Ahmedabad, to real estate and industrial infrastructure firm Mascot Group. The land was originally acquired by HCIL for potential future manufacturing expansion. With the transfer of this asset, HCIL has now formally exited the Vithalapur site. The company confirmed that the sale was completed in April 2023, citing that its existing manufacturing facilities in Tapukara, Rajasthan, and Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, remain sufficient to meet its production requirements in the medium term.
A spokesperson from HCIL said, “As you are aware, HCIL operates a manufacturing facility in Tapukara with an installed capacity of 1.8 lakh units per annum and has the potential for further expansion. Additionally, we have available infrastructure in Greater Noida to support our future capacity needs. We have already outlined an ambitious plan for the Indian market till 2030, which includes the introduction of several new models and powertrains, including battery electric vehicles. Given that our existing capacity and infrastructure are sufficient to meet our mid-term requirements, we are focused on utilising the available capacity.”
The land parcel has now been acquired by Mascot Group, which has announced plans to develop a large-scale industrial city on the site. According to the company, the project is set to be its most ambitious development in Gujarat to date. Mascot Group has previously undertaken multiple industrial park ventures across the state.
The proposed industrial township will reportedly include 31 towers, each with five floors, and is expected to accommodate over 12,000 workers. The development is planned as a self-sustaining ecosystem, with residential housing, dormitory facilities, educational institutions, food courts, and additional amenities integrated into the master plan.
