This will make the Honda CBR650R the first bike in India to debut the brand’s e-Clutch technology.
Honda has released a teaser image on its social media page officially confirming the launch of the CBR650R with e-clutch technology in India. The bike (along with the CB650R) had already launched in the USA last year and in India, it will be the first Honda two-wheeler to debut this clutchless technology. Additionally, Honda’s e-clutch technology is also quite affordable in nature for it uses very few components and is also easy to install. This should help Honda competitively price the upcoming CBR650R with e-clutch that should not be more than its current asking price of ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Unlike fully automatic bikes, the e-clutch technology on Honda will give riders the option of both automatic and manual clutch control. To get access to the latter, one would need to disengage the e-clutch which is just a few toggle through the menu on the 5-inch TFT screen. Powering the Honda CBR650R will be the same 649 cc, inline-four cylinder engine that churns out 94 bhp and 62.3 Nm, and it comes linked to a 6-speed gearbox.
Honda had launched the 2025 iteration of the CBR650R in India earlier this year, alongwith the CB650R, with significant upgrades. For starters, the 5-inch TFT screen mentioned above was one of the most noteworthy upgrades. It supports Honda’s RoadSync app which further gets you access to turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS notifications, and much more. Complimenting this technological upgrade are subtle-yet-visible aesthetic updates like a revised fairing design, and sharper headlight design. The same is expected to remain intact on the e-clutch variant as well. However, the engine cover will be slightly different with a couple of servo motors bolted onto the new casing that will help in the shifting process. The servo motors will also pull the clutch when the bike is stationary.
With the addition of the e-Clutch technology, the Honda CBR650R should become quite the exclusive bike in a segment which includes the likes of the Triumph Daytona 660, and the Suzuki GSX-8R. All that now remains to be seen is how competitively the upcoming CBR650R e-clutch variant is priced at.
