Honda opened a new facility in India focused on electric vehicle development and innovation.
Honda Motors announced the inauguration of a new Solution R&D Center in Bengaluru, Karnataka. This state-of-the-art facility marks a significant step forward in Honda's strategy to electrify its motorcycle and power product portfolio in India. The new centre will serve as a hub for integrating advanced mobility technologies into Honda's electric vehicle (EV) development. Beyond hardware, the focus will extend to software solutions and connected services.
Honda emphasises an "open innovation" approach, fostering collaboration with local tech companies and startups in Bengaluru's thriving tech ecosystem. This collaborative spirit aims to not only accelerate EV development but also unlock new possibilities for services and business models that push the boundaries of the industry.
Honda believes that to continue to be chosen by customers, the company needs not only to respond to electrification trends, but also to create new value outside of the established framework, and provide more attractive products and services.
Honda's commitment to electrification aligns with its global target of achieving carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities by 2050. The company has set an even more ambitious target for its motorcycle segment, aiming for carbon neutrality by the 2040s. This new R&D centre is a crucial step towards achieving these goals in the Indian market.
The Bengaluru facility will further contribute to Honda's global "Triple Action to ZERO" initiative. This initiative focuses on achieving carbon neutrality, promoting clean energy, and enhancing resource circulation. Additionally, it highlights Honda's commitment to safety with its ambitious goals to eliminate traffic collision fatalities.
This R&D centre signifies Honda's dedication to leading the electric vehicle revolution in India. By leveraging Bengaluru's vibrant tech-based atmosphere and fostering a culture of open innovation, Honda is well-positioned to develop not only cleaner but also more exciting mobility solutions for the Indian market.
