A retro Scooter might really freshen up things in Honda’s stable
Honda has ignited a spark of anticipation in the Indian two-wheeler market by filing a design patent for the Stylo 160 scooter. Currently on the streets of Indonesia, the Honda Stylo 160's arrival in India depends on Honda's official confirmation, which we do not yet have. The patent filing suggests the company is at least exploring the possibility of introducing the scooter to the Indian market.
The Honda Stylo 160's design is a clear departure from the generally conservative styling of Honda's existing scooters in India (Activa, Dio). It embraces a charming neo-retro aesthetic. The Stylo is characterised by a distinctive hexagonal headlight outlined in chrome. Round mirrors add a classic touch, while the comfortable scooped-up seat is likely to provide the rider with a relaxed riding posture. The side panels have clean and angular lines, completing the scooter's visually appealing presence.
The Honda Stylo 160 goes beyond aesthetics and offers a fully digital instrument cluster. This provides riders with a clear and easy-to-read information. A built-in USB charging port ensures your devices stay powered up on the go, while the keyless ignition system adds a touch of sophistication. In Indonesia both ABS and CBS variants are available.
The Stylo gets a 156.9cc liquid-cooled engine. This engine generates a healthy 15 bhp and 13.8 Nm of torque, promising a smooth and responsive ride. The engine is paired with a CVT automatic transmission. It is expected to be peppy but we'll know more when we ride it.
If Honda decides to launch the Stylo 160 in India, it will likely compete with other premium 150cc offerings. This will include the Yamaha Aerox 155 and the upcoming Hero Xoom 160. The Honda Stylo 160's neo-retro design and feature set could position it as a unique option for riders seeking a retro looking sporty scooter.
While the design patent is a positive sign, it doesn't guarantee a launch. Honda is yet to officially announce its plans for the Stylo 160 in India. This isn't Honda's only recent foray into the world of patents. The company has been busy securing design protections for a range of new models in India. It has filed patents for the powerful CBR500R and CB500 Hornet motorcycles, hinting at an expansion into the high-performance motorbike segment in India.
