As part of its strategic shift, Honda Two-wheelers plans to gradually transition its focus away from circuit racing activities to off-road racing.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a significant shift in its motorsports strategy, marking its formal entry into off-road racing in the country. The move reflects a broader realignment aimed at tapping into evolving consumer interest and aligning with Honda’s global motorsport presence across rally, motocross, and endurance formats. The announcement signals HMSI’s intent to expand beyond traditional circuit racing and explore disciplines that are gaining traction among Indian audiences.
Over the past 18 years, HMSI has played an active role in shaping India’s motorcycle racing ecosystem. Its initiatives have included the introduction of the Honda One Make Race in 2008, as well as consistent participation in national-level competitions such as the Indian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (INMRC).
Beyond domestic engagement, the company has also invested in nurturing talent through structured development programs. These include training riders on advanced machines like the NSF250R Moto3-spec bike and supporting participation in international platforms such as the Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC), Thailand Talent Cup, and Honda Asia Dream Cup. This legacy provides a foundation for HMSI’s next phase, even as it shifts focus toward newer racing formats.

The decision to enter off-road racing comes at a time when the segment is witnessing steady growth in India. Formats such as rally racing, supercross, and dirt-track competitions are attracting wider audiences, largely due to their accessibility and high entertainment value.
Unlike traditional circuit racing, off-road formats often allow greater participation at grassroots levels, which can help expand the talent pool. HMSI’s move appears to be aligned with this trend, as the company looks to stay relevant in a changing motorsports landscape.
