Due to heavy import duties, the ZR-V could remain a low-volume and niche product in India.
Honda Car India is preparing to re-enter the premium vehicle space with the launch of the ZR-V Hybrid tomorrow, a model that will serve primarily as a brand builder for the company.
Now, because this SUV is rumoured to be arriving on Indian shores via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) import route, it will attract heavy import duties, making it anything but affordable. We estimate an expected ex-showroom price ranging between ₹50-60 lakh, positioning it as a niche product rather than a volume seller.
At this expected price point, Honda is offering a hybrid-only model featuring a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid engine that delivers 177 bhp and 240 Nm of torque, paired with an e-CVT gearbox.
The premium pricing also brings an array of high-end features, including a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless charging pad, a sunroof, and a powered tailgate.

The ultimate success of the Honda ZR-V will depend on how Indian buyers perceive its value. In the premium price bracket of ₹50-60 lakh, buyers traditionally favour large, boxy SUVs with immense road presence.
The ZR-V sports the understated proportions of a premium crossover, meaning its hybrid technology and driving dynamics will have to do the heavy lifting to justify its expected premium price tag.
Whether it manages to lure buyers away from the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tayron, and the upcoming MG Majestor is something that’ll be interesting to see.
