Hyundai Bayon Teaser Reveals Lighting Signature And Alloy Design Ahead Of Festive Launch

Hyundai Motor India has released a fresh teaser of the Bayon, its upcoming midsize SUV, revealing the model's split lighting signature and alloy wheel design ahead of a launch expected during the festive season. The image, shared on Thursday, shows the SUV's "H-Edge" front and rear lighting units, along with a five-spoke machined alloy set within pronounced black wheel-arch cladding, according to industry reports.

The Bayon will be Hyundai's first new nameplate in India in some time, and marks the company's attempt to plug the gap between the Venue and Creta, both strong sellers in a segment that has grown crowded with rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate and MG Astor. Hyundai confirmed the name earlier this month, describing the vehicle as an "Intelligent Utility Vehicle" under a campaign titled "Intelligence ON".

"With Hyundai Bayon, we are introducing more than a new SUV. Bayon represents a new mindset – one that reflects our ambition to create experiences that are intelligent, intuitive and meaningful for our customers," said Tarun Garg, managing director and chief executive of Hyundai Motor India, at the name reveal. Simon Loasby, senior vice-president and head of the Hyundai Design Center, added that the brief was to give the SUV "a strong and unmistakable presence" through its sculpted hood, fender volumes and lighting treatment.

The Bayon nameplate is shared with a smaller crossover Hyundai sells in Europe, though the India-bound model is understood to be a distinct product tailored for local buyers, built on a different body style and packaging. Trade reports suggest the Indian version will measure around 4.18 metres, putting it just ahead of the Creta in length, and could be powered by the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine already used across Hyundai's India line-up, paired with a manual or CVT transmission. A factory-fitted CNG option is also being anticipated, which would be a first for Hyundai in a vehicle of this size in India. None of these specifications, nor pricing, have been officially confirmed by the company.

The teaser's wheel image has been read by at least one outlet as indicating 215/55 R17 tyres, though Hyundai has not published exact specifications, and it remains unclear whether this size will extend across all variants.

For Hyundai, the Bayon arrives at a moment when compact and midsize SUVs continue to dominate India's passenger vehicle sales, with buyers increasingly weighing CNG variants for running costs alongside styling and features. Expected pricing, according to trade estimates, could range between roughly ₹9 lakh and ₹14 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it to compete directly with rivals in the sub-15 lakh SUV bracket when it eventually goes on sale.
