Hyundai Motor Group has announced a significant update to its Digital Key 2 feature for global markets, adding the capability to share digital keys across iOS and Android platforms. While earlier, the Digital Key 2 was available on select Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy models, Hyundai has extended it to Google Pixel smartphones as well.
While the Digital Key 2 feature is available for Hyundai, Kia and Genesis users internationally, it is not available for users in India at the moment. The Digital Key 2 uses Near-Field Communication (NFC) to lock or unlock the car or even start it without the need for the physical key at all. The Digital Key is stored in the Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet apps.
Many features of the Digital Key 2 such as remote locking/unlocking and remote start/stop are available on Hyundai and Kia cars in India through the Hyundai Bluelink and Kia Connect apps. These features also work with selected smartwatches.
The updated Digital Key 2 feature is available with all new Hyundai, Kia and Genesis cars that are compatible with it, as well as older cars after a software update. The cross-platform key sharing will initially be available with compatible Apple iPhone, Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones, with other brands and models to follow.
