Domestic and export sales both climbed over 10% year-on-year, marking the carmaker's third monthly record of 2026 and a sharp turnaround from a supplier-fire disruption in June.
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) recorded its highest-ever monthly sales of 77,916 units in September 2026, up 10.8% from a year earlier, as the company's MD and CEO Tarun Garg confirmed the figure surpassed its previous record set just two months earlier, in July. Domestic sales rose 10.9% to 57,166 units, while exports grew 10.4% to 20,750 units, the Gurugram-based carmaker said.
The milestone caps a volatile quarter for the company. A fire at a supplier's manufacturing facility disrupted production in June, costing HMIL an estimated 13,900 units and pulling total sales down to 51,335 units that month, with domestic dispatches of 39,635 units and exports of 11,700 units. HMIL had said at the time that dealer inventory would cushion the impact on retail customers, and that lost volumes would be recovered within the quarter.

That recovery arrived swiftly. July sales surged to 75,360 units, a then-record rise of 25.4% year-on-year, with domestic sales climbing 23.3% to 54,210 units and exports jumping 31.4% to 21,150 units — HMIL's strongest export performance in more than 100 months. The Creta and i20 both posted their best sales of the calendar year that month, underlining demand for the company's core SUV and hatchback lines even as the numbers reflected some catch-up from June's shortfall.
August brought a mixed picture. Domestic sales held firm, rising 23.6% to 54,396 units — the best for any August on record — but exports nearly halved from July's level to 11,700 units, dragging total sales to 65,796 units, up a more modest 8.8% year-on-year. Garg attributed the export weakness to logistical disruptions linked to the conflict in West Asia, adding that the company expected overseas demand to recover as the geopolitical situation eased. September's export rebound to 20,750 units suggests that recovery has materialised.

The swings illustrate how closely Hyundai's output now tracks both supply-side shocks and external shipping conditions, even as underlying domestic demand has stayed resilient through the April-August period, with Garg citing 12.6% year-on-year growth in that stretch. The broader passenger vehicle market has echoed this strength, with SIAM data showing industrywide wholesale dispatches rising sharply through the June-August period.
Looking ahead, HMIL is banking on continued festive-season demand, supported by the opening of bookings for the Hyundai Bayon, its upcoming all-new nameplate for the Indian market. With three monthly sales records set within a single calendar year — January, July and now September — the carmaker enters the final quarter of the fiscal year with momentum intact, though its export performance remains exposed to geopolitical risk.
