The recall affects EVs like Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and more which may have a faulty Integrated Charging Control Unit.
Hyundai Motor Group has issued a recall for around 170,000 electric vehicles of the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands. These EVs are based on the E-GMP and have an issue with the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU). Vehicles affected by these issues include the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Kia EV6, Genesis GV60, Genesis GV70 and Genesis GV80 EVs. Of these, only the Ioniq 5 and EV6 are sold in India.
Acko Drive has reached out to Hyundai India and Kia India regarding the recall and we will update the story once we get a response. As of now the recall has been issued for vehicles in South Korea, but it could affect models in other countries as well. The ICCU issue occurs while charging the vehicles or makes the vehicle lose power while driving.

This seems to be the biggest recall ever issued for vehicles built on the E-GMP platform by Hyundai Motor Group since it was launched in 2021. While in Korea, the group is recalling around 170,000 vehicles and if the issue turns out to be global, Hyundai may have to recall more than 500,000 vehicles, according to media reports.
Hyundai is expected to update the software of the affected vehicles to rectify the issue. If the issue persists, Hyundai will likely replace the ICCU entirely. As per reports, Hyundai has been aware of the issue for a while now and has been offering free repairs to customers who reported the issue. It only decided to recall the issue once more reports of the power loss started rolling in.

“Hyundai Motor and Kia will take prompt actions to prevent customer inconvenience and will continue to prioritize the safety of our customers and their vehicles”, said Hyundai Motor Group in a statement to Reuters.
Media reports also mention that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is also investigating the issue separately, following a complaint about the Ioniq 5 lost power while driving.
