Hyundai Motor America has presented the Crater Concept at AutoMobility LA 2025 on 20 November. The vehicle is a compact off-road SUV that shows capability and is built for terrain. The company designed the concept at Hyundai America Technical Centre in Irvine, California.

The Crater Concept is built on a compact monocoque architecture. It has been designed to go anywhere. The vehicle has steep approach and departure angles for off-road exploration. The concept stands 18-inch wheels with 33-inch off-road tyres that give grip and ground clearance.

The exterior design of the Crater Concept follows Hyundai's Art of Steel design language. The vehicle has chiselled bodysides and a wide skid plate that stretches across the bottom. A roof platform is there for mounting lights and storage. The concept has limb risers on the front hood for protection from branches. The fender design is sheer and shows a character made for function.

The rocker panels use protective and utility case design. The concept has a lighting signature in three dimensions. Lights are mounted on the roof. The wheels were inspired by a hexagonal asteroid hitting a metal landscape.
Inside, the Crater Concept is built for those who seek function. Forms are wrapped in soft yet strong materials. The dashboard has a crash pad that bridges the exterior and interior. The concept has a head-up display with a camera feed. Perforations on the crash pad allow light to glow through.
The seats have wraparound forms. Three-dimensional padding gives support during off-road drives. Side bolsters hold the body steady. A four-point seatbelt system is for safety. The steering wheel has terrain mode buttons for Snow, Sand, Mud, Auto, and XRT modes.

The interior has a first aid kit on the passenger side and a fire extinguisher on the driver side. A speaker sits in the centre console. Controls connect to light indicators. A gear-type multi-function controller helps with off-road operation. Front and rear locking differentials are there. The concept has downhill brake control and trailer brake control.
The Crater Concept colour is Dune Gold Matte on the exterior. The interior is Black Ember. Orange accents add contrast. The material uses leather for the base, Alcantara for the cabin, and brushed metal for accents.
Hyundai stated earlier this year that it will launch 26 models in India by 2030. The company has announced plans for an off-road SUV for the India market. The Crater Concept could be a preview of what Hyundai is developing for India but we have no confirmation yet.
