The Creta was first launched in India exactly 10 years ago, on July 21, 2015.
The Hyundai Creta has completed 10 years in the Indian automotive industry, as it was first launched in India in July 2015. Since then, Hyundai India has sold more than 12 lakh units of the compact SUV in the country. With more than 12 lakh units sold, the Creta is the best-selling car in its segment, followed by the Kia Seltos with more than 5 lakh units sold since 2019, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara with more than 3 lakh units sold since 2022 and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder with at least 1.5 lakh units sold since 2022.
In the financial year 2025 (FY25), i.e., the period between April 2024 and March 2025, the Creta was the best-selling model in India with nearly 1.95 lakh units. Following it is the Grand Vitara with almost 1.24 lakh units. These two are the only two models to have breached the 1 lakh sales mark. The Seltos saw sales of 72,618 units, while the Toyota sold 60,388 units of the Hyryder. Apart from the Creta, there’s only one other compact SUV that has an electric powertrain, which is the Curvv, and it sold 34,019 units in FY25. For reference, the segment sold around 6 lakh units in FY25, with the Creta comprising 32 per cent of the market share.
In 2024, Hyundai sold almost 1.87 lakh Cretas in India, its highest number to date. The next best sales year was 2023, when Hyundai sold just 1.57 lakh units in the country. Behind it is 2022 with almost 1.41 lakh unit sales for the Creta in India. Between January and June 2025, Hyundai sold a smidge over 1 lakh units, and it indicates that 2025 could be the best year in sales for Creta in India, partly helped by the introduction of the Creta Electric earlier this year. The Creta’s sales first breached the 1 lakh sales mark in 2017 when Hyundai managed to sell 1.05 lakh units in India. Ever since, Hyundai has constantly clocked more than 1 lakh sales per year, except for 2019 and 2020 when it sold 99,736 units and 96,989 units, respectively. Take a look at the table below to see per year sales of the Hyundai Creta in India since its launch.
Year | Units Sold |
---|---|
July - Dec 2015 | 40,888 |
2016 | 92,926 |
2017 | 1,05,484 |

2020 | 96,899 |
2021 | 1,25,437 |
2022 | 1,40,895 |
2023 | 1,57,311 |
2024 | 1,86,919 |

This clearly indicates that Creta has been quite successful and popular in the country. In 2025 alone, Hyundai India said 70 per cent of the Creta’s sales had variants which included a sunroof. In the past year, it has been the best-selling car for four months out of the past 12 – July 2024, March 2025, April 2025 and June 2025. Hyundai India also exports the Creta to 13 countries and has exported over 2.87 lakh units to date.
The first-generation Creta was launched in 2015, with its facelift coming to the market in 2018. Hyundai India then launched the second generation of the compact SUV in India in 2020, and its facelift came to India in January 2024. 10 years since the Creta came to India, it is now available with a wide variety of powertrains – petrol, turbo-petrol, diesel and electric. It also came with a manual, an iMT, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), a torque converter automatic and a dual-clutch automatic transmission option too.
