The electric SUV market in India is witnessing fierce competition, with new models being introduced at a rapid pace. Hyundai, one of South Korea's leading automakers, is now set to strengthen its foothold in the segment by unveiling the highly anticipated Creta EV. The launch is scheduled for January 17, 2025, during the Bharat Mobility Expo. It’ll be even more interesting because Maruti Suzuki India is also showcasing its first EV, the e Vitara, at the Bharat Mobility Expo.

The Hyundai Creta EV is expected to capitalise on the popularity of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, which has established itself as a bestseller in India’s SUV segment. This move seems essential, as the Creta EV will enter a crowded and competitive market. The electric SUV is poised to face off against rivals like the Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and the soon-to-be-released Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.
In terms of design, the Creta EV is likely to retain much of the aesthetic appeal of the ICE-powered Creta. The front fascia is expected to feature similar daytime running lights (DRLs) and headlights. However, Hyundai will give the EV a distinct identity by incorporating a closed nose in place of the traditional grille, a hallmark of electric vehicles. The design of the alloy wheels might also be tweaked to enhance aerodynamics, further improving efficiency.
The interiors of the Hyundai Creta EV are expected to receive a fresh update, differentiating it from its ICE sibling. Anticipated changes include a new steering wheel design, revisions to the dashboard layout, and an updated centre console.

In terms of features, the Creta EV is expected to come equipped with a range of premium offerings, including ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, and electronic parking brakes. Additionally, the EV is likely to borrow the entertainment system from its ICE variant.
While Hyundai has not yet revealed specific details about the Creta EV’s powertrain, we expect Hyundai to equip it with a battery pack comparable to its rivals. For instance, the MG ZS EV features a 50.3 kWh battery pack, while the Tata Curvv EV offers options for 45 kWh and 55 kWh battery packs.
