IAA 2025: Volkswagen Unveils ID. Polo Concept

At the sidelines of unveiling the ID.Cross Concept, Volkswagen also showcased the heavily camouflaged version of the ID. Polo. This near-production version is nothing but the name of the production version of the ID. 2all concept that was first shown in 2023. 

Volkswagen has showcased not just the ID. Polo, but also its sportier iteration, the ID. Polo GTI. Both these models will enter production and will be launched globally in 2026. While the ID. Polo will debut in May 2026, the ID. Polo GTI will debut shortly after. Both models are on display at the IAA Munich till September 14. 

The brand will also move away from its older naming strategy – ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6, ID.7 – and adopt the names of the cars it has in its portfolio. It said that going forward, new generations of existing, established models will have an ID. moniker, while also retaining their original names. This way, Volkswagen aims to streamline its electric and internal combustion model names. 

The ID. Polo will be built on Volkswagen’s MEB+ platform, and is currently in its final testing phase. Volkswagen says ID. Polo will have a front-wheel drive layout and will measure 4053 mm in length, have a wheelbase of 2600 mm and measure 1816 mm and 1530 mm in width and height, respectively. The ID. Polo will also come with features like ADAS, parking assist, 360-degree camera, and more. Volkswagen says the ID. Polo will have two battery pack options and three power output versions. 

Similarly, the ID. Polo GTI will have the same dimensions as the standard ID. Polo and it will be the first electric GTI model for Volkswagen, debuting 50 years after the original Golf GTI debuted in 1976. For the ID. Polo GTI, VW says this electric hot hatch will produce 223 bhp and will also come with a front-wheel drive layout.
