Ian Callum, the former automotive designer of Aston Martin and Jaguar, has worked on the iconic MINI along with the coachbuilder Wood & Pickett. Called the Wood & Pickett MINI by Callum, the reimagined version is based on the Mark 5 MINI, which was sold between 1984 and 1990, but has a few modern design elements.

Firstly, the Wood & Pickett MINI has brand new LED headlamps along with LED fog lamps mounted on the grille, flared wheel arches, a bigger front splitter, upswept exhaust tips and very modern-looking vertical taillamps. Regardless of which colour one selects, the Wood & Pickett MINI comes with two stripes across the length of the car.

Since it is built in collaboration with a coachbuilder, the cabin looks very premium. There’s wood on the dashboard, and lots of it. There are two cupholders ahead of the metal gearstick, and beautiful leather and tartan upholstery all around. There’s also a small touchscreen which will likely have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Powering the Wood & Pickett MINI is a 1.3-litre rally-spec petrol engine, which is claimed to produce 110 bhp. The engine gets a new cylinder head, twin-point injection and a retuned ECU. Callum Designs says the MINI’s suspension has been tuned for a balance between comfort and handling, and it also gets upgraded brakes for better stopping power as well as bespoke 13-inch alloy wheels designed by Callum Designs itself.

Each of the Wood & Pickett MINIs will be hand-built and will be limited in numbers. Prices start at GBP 75,000 (approx. ₹88 lakh). Callum Designs also said that no two MINIs will look the same, since all will be built according to the customer’s preference.
