The brand recently launched the Ducati Panigale Superquadro V2 Final Edition.
Leaked documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveal that Ducati is working on a new V-twin sportbike. Codenamed the '2102 Project', this motorcycle is expected to replace the Panigale V2 and sit below the Panigale V4 in Ducati's lineup.
This doesn’t come as a surprise for with the launch of the new Ducati Panigale Superquadro V2 Final Edition, the Bologna-based company had confirmed that the Superquadro-powered Panigale V2 will be discontinued in 2025. The Superquadro engine, which has been in use since 2011 in various capacities, will see its 955cc version phased out next year due to stringent emission norms.
As for the new sportbike, it is likely to be powered by Ducati's 937cc Testastretta engine, currently used in models such as the Multistrada V2, SuperSport, DesertX, and Hypermotard 950. This suggests that the new model may offer different performance characteristics compared to the outgoing Panigale V2.
Moreover, from 2025 onwards, this new motorcycle is expected to be Ducati's only V-twin sportbike offering. This marks a shift from the current strategy of selling the SuperSport 950 and Panigale V2 simultaneously. While exact specifications remain unknown, the new model's styling is likely to draw inspiration from the new Ducati Panigale V4, which was revealed at the World Ducati Week last month. The unveiling of this new V-twin sportbike is anticipated for late 2024 or early 2025.
This development indicates Ducati's intent to maintain a presence in the V-twin sportbike segment while potentially making it more accessible to a broader range of riders. As more details emerge, the motorcycle community will be watching to see how this new model fits into Ducati's evolving lineup.
