The iPhone 15 Pro Max becomes the first iPhone of the 2020s to flunk JerryRigEverything's stringent teardown.
As eager buyers form chaotic queues for the iPhone 15 in India, teardown expert JerryRigEverything remains unimpressed by Apple's flagship, the titanium-clad iPhone 15 Pro Max. Remarkably, this device becomes the first iPhone of the 2020s to flunk his stringent teardown.
The last iPhone to face such a debacle was the 2014 iPhone 6 Plus, infamous for its "bendgate" issues. This led Apple to switch to series 7000 aluminium, eventually evolving to surgical-grade stainless steel for the iPhone X. Now, Apple has opted for grade 5 titanium for the first time.
In recent years, the weight of Apple's Pro Max models has garnered scrutiny. The iPhone 14 Pro Max tipped the scales at a hefty 240 grams. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, however, utilises titanium to shed 19 grams, making it noticeably lighter than its 6.7-inch screen competitors.
Yet, JerryRigEverything found that the iPhone 15 Pro Max's glass back cracked within five seconds under minimal pressure. The reviewer was taken aback, advising consumers to consider the $200 in-store repair.
Surprisingly, the standard iPhone 15 Pro survived his durability tests. It suggests that a faulty unit may have landed in his hands, causing this unprecedented failure. If this turns out to be a wider issue, it could spell disaster for Apple. Especially significant is the escalated price point, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max starting at a staggering Rs 156,900 (approx. $2,100 USD).
