These Carens, which will serve as emergency response vehicles, come with special features.
Kia India has delivered 71 Carens as purpose-built vehicles (PBV) to the Punjab Police. These PBVs will be used as emergency response vehicles (ERVs) and come with specialised features. The Carens ERV was also showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 and made its debut at the Auto Expo 2023.
The Carens ERV will get a 114 bhp, 144 Nm, 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Furthermore, Carens ERV also gets high-intensity strobe lights and a public address (PA) system which runs via a bigger 60 Ah battery. The ERV also has ‘Dial 112 - Emergency Response Vehicle’ Decals on the sides.
Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales and Business Officer, Kia India, commented “Purpose-Based Vehicles represent the future of mobility as they offer the possibility of extensive customization to meet specific mobility requirements. Kia is proud to team up with the Punjab Police in delivering technologically enhanced Carens as PBVs, tailored to offer the best and safest driving experience, particularly for longer journeys.”
Like the standard model, the Carens ERV comes with features such as disc brakes on all four wheels, ABS, TPMS, six airbags, ESC, among others. The Carens ERV seems to be based on the lower-spec variants as it comes with steel wheels with plastic covers instead of alloy wheels. Furthermore, like the standard model, the Carens ERV is also built using a high-strength steel structure.
Kia says it aims to address the gap of diverse mobility requirements of specialised institutions in India by entering the PBV segment. Furthermore, the marque highlights that the delivery of these 71 vehicles showcases its vision of becoming a global leader in the PBV segment by the end of this decade.
