Kia’s BaaS scheme offers optimised financing and flexible ownership pathways to encourage wider EV adoption.
In a move to make electric vehicle (EV) ownership more accessible, Kia India has launched its first Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme for Carens Clavis EV. This initiative aims to lower the initial acquisition cost by decoupling the price of the battery from the vehicle chassis, offering customers a more flexible financial structure.
Under this new scheme, the Carens Clavis EV is available with two separate loan accounts. The vehicle chassis is financed through a standard loan with a maximum tenure of 60 months. In contrast, the battery pack is offered via a rental model with a significantly longer repayment period of up to 96 months. This extension is designed to ease the monthly financial burden on buyers.

Kia has fixed the battery rental fee at ₹3.3 per kilometre for both available battery pack options. This pay-per-use approach is expected to appeal to high-mileage users and those looking for a lower entry point into the premium electric MPV segment. Despite the introduction of the BaaS model, the overall ex-showroom prices for the Carens Clavis EV remain unchanged, ranging from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹24.99 lakh.
The Carens Clavis EV offers a driving range between 404 km and 490 km depending on the variant. It comes equipped with features such as disc brakes on all four wheels, a monocoque chassis, and a suite of modern amenities including ambient lighting and multiple power outlets.
This announcement comes as the Indian electric vehicle market sees increased competition and new infrastructure developments. With the government recently approving thousands of new EV chargers under the PM E-Drive scheme, Kia's flexible ownership model is well-timed to capture growing consumer interest in EVs.
