Kia Sorento Premium SUV Teased For India Ahead Of Launch This Festive Season

Fresh off the launch of the new Syros EV in the country, Kia India is gearing up for its next big offering, and has dropped a new teaser on its social media handles. The automaker will be bringing the highly anticipated Sorento SUV to the Indian market, which the teaser hints at without divulging much. Select Kia dealerships have already begun accepting unofficial bookings for the Sorento.

The upcoming Kia Sorento is expected to arrive around the festive period. The model will be competing the same category as other premium SUVs, including the Volkswagen Tayron, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner, MG Majestor, and the Honda ZR-V. The Sorento is expected to be locally assembled in India, which should keep prices competitive. While the automaker has largely focused on the mass-market space, models such as the Sorento help become brand builders, alongside other premium offerings including the EV6, EV9, and Carnival in the lineup.

The Kia Sorento will help bridge the gap between the Seltos and Carnival in the brand’s ICE lineup. The styling is reminiscent of Kia’s global models, with the vertically stacked LED headlamps, sharply styled LED DRLs, and a wide tiger-nose grille. The rear sports vertical LED taillights, black-cladding on the bumper, and a roof spoiler.

On the feature front, the Kia Sorento packs dual 12.3-inch screens with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation functions, Level 2 ADAS, and more. The SUV is substantial in size measuring 4,815 mm in length with a 2,815 mm wheelbase, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,700 mm in height. This makes it larger than both the Skoda Kodiaq and VW Tayron.

Powering the Kia Sorento is the 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid engine in global markets. This unit produces 235 bhp and 380 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Power goes to the front wheels while Kia offers an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) option as well. There’s no word on prices yet but the Kia Sorento is expected to be priced between ₹40-45 lakh (ex-showroom).
