The KTM 890 Duke R was discontinued in Europe last year to make way for the bigger 990 Duke.
KTM’s second innings in India with its premium offerings got a fresh breath of air today with four new bikes launched. One of them is the KTM 890 Duke R, which arrives at ₹14.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The 890 Duke R was discontinued from European markets earlier this year, and the 990 Duke R replaced it to meet current emission norms.
The 890 Duke R might feel a bit nostalgic. Besides a few cosmetic nips and tucks, it doesn’t look very different from the 790 Duke. Similarly, the frame has also remained the same as the 790 Duke that used to be sold here. But it is now suspended on a 43 mm WP Apex USD fork and monoshock, with some form of adjustability. However, the seat height is set at 834 mm, which is lower than the 790 Duke’s. Braking duties are carried out by dual-320 mm/ 240 mm discs with Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers chomping on them at the front.
This bike will be powered by a bigger 899 cc parallel-twin engine that produces 119 bhp and 99 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper and assist clutch as standard. A quick-shifter is also available as an option.
Feature-wise, the KTM 890 Duke R gets the usual list of ride modes – Street, Rain, Sport, and an optional Track mode too. Additionally, cornering ABS, Supermoto ABS, cornering traction control, etc are also available here. The 5-inch TFT unit is Bluetooth compatible but it does not support turn-by-turn navigation or music playback as the smaller 390 Duke gets, however, you can control incoming calls.
Priced at ₹14.50 lakh (ex-showrooom, Delhi), the new KTM 890 Duke R is a proper hoonigan, that will be ideal for anyone looking to buy a middleweight naked sports. Famously known as the “Super Scalpel”, the new 890 Duke R will compete against the likes of the Ducati Monster SP, Triumph Street Triple R and the Kawasaki Z900.
