Lamborghini India is issuing a recall for the Urus SUV due to a potential risk of the hood flying off at high speeds. The issue affects 92 units of the Urus built between July 2020 and February 2024. This means that not all units of the Urus in India are affected. Globally, 7,749 units have been affected by this issue.
In a statement, Lamborghini said, "The owners of the vehicles affected are being notified and requested to contact an authorized Lamborghini dealer or Service point in order to have the parts inspected and if necessary reworked, free of charge. Lamborghini prides itself on the highest standard of quality, service and customer care and we are working quickly to ensure that all vehicles are repaired efficiently."
As per the recall statement, the issue lies with the rivet studs in the hood latch strikers which can have some level of deformation. Due to this, a small gap between the hood and front bumper could be created at speeds above 150 kmph which can allow air to enter.
These gaps can then increase at higher speeds and can cause the latch system to fail, separating the hood latch striker from the hood. Furthermore, this could lead to the hood opening abruptly or even detaching entirely. The issue appears to be from the supplier’s manufacturing process.
Lamborghini first learnt of the issue in August last year when it received two warranty claims regarding the misalignment of the hood and fender. It said it launched an investigation into this with its supplier. Then in February this year, an Urus in Indonesia had its hood fly off due to this issue and that’s where it discovered the issue with the hood latch strikers.
The Urus was launched in India in 2018, a few months after it was launched globally. In 2023, Lamborghini introduced two new variants of the Urus in India – the Urus Performante and Urus S. Since its launch, Lamborghini has sold more than 200 units of the Urus in India. The Urus is a popular model for Lamborghini India and has a waiting of at least a year.
