The Defender Octa will get a twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine and upgraded suspension.
Land Rover has announced that its hardcore offroader, the Defender, will be getting a high-performance version. Called the Defender Octa, it will come with a get twin-turbocharged V8 engine with mild hybrid assist and upgraded suspension.

The Defender Octa will get a new ‘Octa’ badge to differentiate it from the standard models. The Octa badge features a diamond shape and will be featured on various parts of the interior and exterior. Other cosmetic updates will be revealed when Land Rover reveals the Defender Octa completely later this year. However, the British marque also said prospective buyers can go to their nearest dealership now if they want their SUV from the first batch.
While Land Rover only mentioned that the Defender Octa will get a twin-turbocharged V8 with a mild-hybrid assist but didn’t reveal its specifications. The Defender gets a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine producing 518 bhp and 625 Nm. However, Land Rover could plonk the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 with mild hybrid assist that produces 606 bhp and 750 Nm.

The Defender Octa will also get Land Rover’s 6D Dynamics air suspension. This suspension tech features a unique pitch and roll control system that Land Rover says helps maintain “a near-level stance during acceleration, braking and cornering on-road, while also maximising independent wheel travel and articulation across the most demanding off-road terrain.”
Land Rover says the Defender Octa is undergoing the most exhaustive testing for any Defender model. The brand is testing the Octa in Snow and Ice in Sweden, in the desert in Dubai, in the mountains in Moab, USA as well as the Nurburgring racetrack in Germany.
