Exactly a year after debuting the XEV 9E and BE 6, its first two “born electric” cars, Mahindra is following up with the larger 7-seater XEV 9S. The launch is set for November 26, but we already know quite a lot about this upcoming three-row electric SUV thanks to a steady stream of teasers.
The most recent updates from Mahindra confirm that at least some variants of the XEV 9S will come with second-row screens for passengers to enjoy content on. This makes the vehicle potentially more family-friendly for long trips, keeping passengers entertained with videos, apps and games.
Another premium in-cabin feature is a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with Dolby Atmos for immersive spatial positioning in supported content. The XEV 9e and BE 6 are among several Mahindra models that also feature Dolby Atmos, which works with streaming audio in the Gaana app for subscribers.
Ambient interior lighting can be configured to any of 16 million colours, using the central infotainment touchscreen. Interestingly, the teasers show a large glass roof but not the same RGB light patterns embedded into the glass as with the already-launched XEV and BE models.
Middle row passengers will also be able to adjust the front seat electronically with a “boss mode” control panel, allowing them to push it forward to make more room.
While Mahindra has not talked about specifications yet, it is extremely likely that the XEV 9S will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon platform just like its siblings. It should also support Mahindra's MAIA in-car AI assistant, Secure360 connected safety solution, and Level 2 ADAS, based on its shared architecture with the existing models.
The company has previously confirmed a panoramic triple-screen configuration, which means the front passenger has a dedicated panel for entertainment. However, it is likely that most of these features will only be seen in the top-most variant(s) of the car. Mahindra has not yet confirmed any information regarding pricing or availability.
The XEV 9S is being positioned as spacious and fun, with three rows of seats making it well suited for large families and road trips. Design-wise, it appears to be very similar to the XEV 9S. It is based on the company’s INGLO platform, with a skateboard-style flat battery beneath the cabin allowing for more interior space as well as better structural rigidity. Mahindra will also unveil its rugged BE Rall-E, based on the BE 6, at the same event. Stay tuned to ACKO Drive for more updates, live from the launch!
