Ducati has unveiled the Formula 73, a limited-edition motorcycle that pays tribute to the brand’s storied racing legacy. The model draws inspiration from the legendary 750 Super Sport Desmo, which is closely linked to Ducati’s historic victory at the 1972 Imola 200. Production will be capped at just 873 units worldwide, with each motorcycle featuring a unique numbered plate to maintain exclusivity.
Each motorcycle comes with a certificate of authenticity and a special presentation box featuring archival images and sketches from the Ducati Style Centre. The model name and serial number are displayed on the steering plate, reinforcing its exclusivity. Ducati has also designed a matching Arai helmet and a jacket finished in the same Formula 73 colour scheme.
The motorcycle uses a known platform but offers a fresh identity that resonated with the brand’s 1970s racing programme. The Ducati Formula 73 adopts a classic café racer design, featuring clip-on handlebars, a front fairing, and a single-seat tail section. The motorcycle is finished in a dual-tone silver and aqua-green paint scheme, accented by a gold vertical stripe on the fuel tank. This design element pays homage to the original Imola race bike, where the exposed strip functioned as a fuel level indicator.

The cafe racer styling is further accentuated by clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors, a chopped off rear section, and a half fairing that is reminiscent of cafe racers from the 1960s and 70s. Adding more vintage feel to the cafe racer are the wire spoke wheels and a rear seat cowl. A rear tyre hugger with a number plate holder and a stubby Termignoni exhaust muffler are the other visual attractions of the Ducati Formula 73.

On the hardware front, the café racer rides on 17-inch wheels shod with Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, providing strong grip and stability. Premium mechanical elements such as billet aluminium brake and clutch levers, foot pegs, and a Rizoma fuel cap further highlight Ducati’s focus on precision engineering and craftsmanship.

Powering the Ducati Formula 73 is an 803 cc, air-cooled, L-twin engine featuring desmodromic valve operation. This motor pumps out 71 bhp and 65 Nm of peak torque while being mated to a six-speed gearbox. Underneath the old-school, retro appearance, the cafe racer offers a bunch of modern electronic goodies such as ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, cornering ABS, and a quick-shift system.
