Production of Triumph’s flagship naked sport will be limited to just 1,200 units.
Triumph has taken the wraps off its meanest, flagship naked sport offering as of yet – the Speed Triple 1200 RX. Building on the established reputation of the Speed Triple 1200 RS, the new RX is a limited edition model that is designed to be your ultimate track weapon. Only 1,200 units will be manufactured for the global market, and each bike in the US is priced at $21,495 (which is equivalent to ₹18.30 lakh). The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS retails for ₹17.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The new Speed Triple RX comes standard with an Akrapovic Silencer and carbon fibre pieces on the exhaust valve, front fender, and around the fuel tank. This might save some weight off the bike, but at 199 kg it weighs 1 kg heavier than the RS. This additional weight comes from its suspension. For the latest Ohlins SmartEC3 electronic semi-active suspension on the Speed Triple 1200 RX is complimented by the Ohlins SD EC electronic steering damper – a small addition that helps make the ride more refined and predictable. Beyond which, the rest of the hardware remains the same.
The ergonomics have been tweaked for a more committed riding stance. This was achieved by equipping clip-on handlebars, which can be adjusted by moving the grips 2.71 inches lower and 2.04 inches more forward, compared to the RS. The footpegs have also been moved an inch back and are now placed 0.57 inches higher than the RS’s. There are no pillion footpegs, so the single-piece seat has been redesigned to further aid in the committed stance.

The rest of the electronics have remained the same from the Speed Triple 1200 RS. Right from cornering traction control, independently adjustable wheelie control, cruise control, to five ride modes (Rain, Road, Sport, Tract and Rider), and a dedicated track mode. Mechanically, it continues to be powered by that monstrous 1,160 cc, liquid-cooled, inline-three cylinder mill producing the same 180.5 bhp at a whopping 10,750 rpm and 127 Nm of peak torque at 8,750 rpm on the RX as the RS.
Lastly, to help distinguish the new Speed Triple 1200 RX from the RS is that bright and unique Triumph Performance Yellow colour scheme. While Triumph India hasn’t officially announced anything yet about the new Speed Triple 1200 RX, we expect a few units will be allotted for the Indian market.
