The India-made Suzuki e Vitara, the brand’s first all-electric model, has secured a 4-star rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP crash tests. While the model demonstrated solid protection for adults, children and vulnerable road users, a few shortcomings kept it from achieving the top 5-star score.
In the adult occupant category, the e Vitara achieved 77 per cent, showing strong protection for knees, femurs and chest in most crash scenarios. The passenger compartment stayed stable in the frontal offset test, while side barrier and side pole impacts provided good results across critical body areas.
However, there were concerns in the full-width rigid barrier test, where the rear passenger dummy recorded only marginal head and chest protection due to forward movement and chest compression.
Child occupant safety remained strong, with full points in the frontal and side impact tests for 6- and 10-year-old dummies. The SUV also allows safe installation of child restraints.
The e Vitara scored 79 per cent for Vulnerable Road User (VRU) protection. Its Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system performed well in pedestrian and cyclist detection, particularly in cyclist crossing scenarios.
On the downside, it lacks cyclist “dooring” protection and pedestrian detection in reverse, while stiff areas around the windscreen base reduced scores.
Suzuki’s electric SUV managed 72 per cent in Safety Assist. It comes with speed assistance, lane support, driver monitoring and AEB for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Seatbelt reminders are fitted for both rows.
Missing features, such as child presence detection and cyclist dooring protection, held back its overall safety assist performance.
The e Vitara’s 4-star Euro NCAP rating reflects a competent safety package that delivers well in most areas but falls short of the very best in its segment. Strong scores in child occupant protection and AEB systems underline its family-friendly credentials, but marginal results in some crash tests and the absence of a few advanced features cost it the fifth star.
For safety-conscious buyers, the e Vitara remains a capable and reliable option — though rivals with 5-star ratings may offer a more comprehensive protection package.
