The project is planned to spread across 1,500 acres in the Vidarbha region when complete.

Mahindra & Mahindra is one step closer to beginning construction work on a new integrated manufacturing facility in Nagpur, Maharashtra, which will be key to its near-term expansion plans. The company is close to acquiring the first 800 acres that it needs to set up what will eventually be its largest automotive manufacturing plant. The greenfield facility will be used to build passenger vehicles as well as tractors for domestic sales and export. The company says it will have the capacity to produce over 5 lakh cars and 1 lakh tractors annually.

Mahindra has committed to taking on skill and talent development in areas such as mechanical operations, welding, and painting, for the workforce that it plans to employ. People will be trained to work on cars and tractors based on multiple powertrains, for future-readiness. In addition, Mahindra will transfer some of its existing, experienced staff from current locations to the new plant to help select and train new employees.

The project is planned to spread across 1,500 acres in the Vidarbha region when complete. An additional 150-acre supplier park is planned in nearby Sambhajinagar. The company already operates manufacturing plants in Maharashtra at Chakan and Nashik, and envisages a supply chain ecosystem across these locations.
