Comparing September's SUV sales to earlier months in 2025 reveals the seasonal uptick: a 18.9% increase from June's 47,306 units and a 12.8% rise from July's 49,871 units.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd has reported its strongest monthly performance in September 2025, achieving total vehicle sales of 1,00,298 units, marking a robust 16% year-on-year growth compared to the same period last year. The company's SUV division emerged as the primary growth driver, recording domestic sales of 56,233 units in September 2025, representing a substantial 10% increase over the 51,062 units sold in September 2024. More significantly, this figure demonstrates a dramatic 42.7% month-on-month surge compared to August 2025's 39,399 units, highlighting the impact of festive season demand and the recently implemented GST 2.0 benefits.
The September performance stands in stark contrast to the preceding months, with SUV sales showing consistent improvement. Comparing September's SUV sales to earlier months in 2025 reveals the seasonal uptick: a 18.9% increase from June's 47,306 units and a 12.8% rise from July's 49,871 units. However, the most dramatic improvement came from August's deliberately suppressed figures of 39,399 units, as the company had strategically reduced wholesale billing ahead of the GST rate changes.
According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra's Automotive Division, the September surge was particularly pronounced during the Navratri period, with dealer-reported customer retail sales growing over 60% in the SUV segment compared to the first nine days of Navratri last year. This festive season boost was complemented by pent-up demand following the GST 2.0 announcement, which reduced tax rates across several vehicle categories from September 22, 2025.
Mahindra's commercial vehicle division also demonstrated strong year-on-year growth, with domestic sales reaching 26,728 units in September 2025, representing an 18% increase compared to the same month in 2024. The commercial vehicle segment experienced even stronger retail growth during Navratri, with over 70% growth in dealer-reported customer purchases compared to the corresponding period last year.
The company's three-wheeler segment, including electric variants, has shown consistent strength throughout 2025. While specific September figures weren't detailed in the latest report, previous months showed remarkable growth, with July 2025 recording 9,475 units sold, representing a 164% year-on-year increase. .
Beyond passenger and commercial vehicles, Mahindra's Farm Equipment Business delivered exceptional results in September 2025, with domestic tractor sales reaching 64,946 units—a remarkable 50% year-on-year growth from 43,201 units in September 2024. This performance was supported by favourable agricultural conditions, including above-normal monsoon, positive Kharif crop outlook, and the beneficial impact of GST rate reductions on farm equipment.
Despite the strong sales performance, Mahindra faced operational challenges in September, particularly regarding trailer availability during the final 10 days of the month, which impacted SUV billing numbers. The company is actively working to improve dispatches to its dealer network within these logistical constraints.
The September 2025 results mark a significant turnaround from August's performance, when the company had deliberately reduced wholesale billing in anticipation of GST changes. This strategic decision resulted in August SUV sales of 39,399 units, down 9% year-on-year, making September's recovery all the more impressive.
