Mahindra Files Design Patent for Vision.SXT Cabin, Previews Production Dashboard Ahead of 2028 Launch

Mahindra & Mahindra has filed a design patent for the interior of a production model based on the Vision.SXT concept, offering the first official look at how the rugged SUV's cabin will translate from show car to showroom. The Vision.SXT concept was unveiled on August 15, 2025 as part of Mahindra's Global Vision 2027 event, alongside three other concepts — Vision.S, Vision.T and Vision.X — all built on the carmaker's new NU_IQ modular platform. While the road-going model is not expected to reach customers until 2028, the cabin design has already been registered with the Indian patent office, giving a clear indication of how far the project has progressed.

The patent drawings show a dashboard that departs from the concept's flashiest element — the tall, portrait-oriented touchscreen. In its place is a wide, landscape-style infotainment display set into the centre of the dashboard, flanked by a freestanding instrument cluster ahead of the driver, in keeping with the twin-screen layout increasingly common across Mahindra's lineup. Air conditioning vents are positioned at either end of the dashboard near the A-pillars, with an additional sculpted, free-form vent set into the passenger side — a styling flourish clearly aimed at breaking up an otherwise utilitarian layout.

Beneath the main screen sits a row of toggle switches, most likely handling climate and auxiliary functions, alongside rotary knobs for audio and tuning controls — a nod to the physical-switchgear approach Mahindra showcased across the Vision.S and Vision.SXT concepts, where the company had deliberately avoided a touch-only console. Lower down, the centre console features what appear to be charging ports, likely for wireless device charging or USB outlets, along with additional storage.

Compared with the concept's more theatrical cabin — dominated by a large portrait touchscreen and bright yellow accents — the patented interior looks noticeably more restrained and production-ready, suggesting Mahindra has settled on a workable dashboard architecture well ahead of launch. The exterior design of the Vision.SXT was patented earlier this year, and with the interior now filed too, the model appears to be moving steadily through its development cycle, even as its 2028 market debut remains some way off.
