India’s Mahindra & Mahindra is poised to bring its homegrown battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to the United Kingdom within the next 18–24 months, bolstering the country’s clean-mobility push and reaffirming India’s growing footprint in the global EV arena. The announcement comes as Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker, has already begun exporting its eVitara model to the UK, underscoring rising demand for Indian-made electric cars abroad.
Speaking exclusively with Acko Drive, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra Automotive Division, said, “UK is on the horizon for us. 18-24 months we’re thinking of a launch in the UK. The UK presence also helps us in the journey as well. With South Africa and Australia we will see before or after but UK is definitely on the horizon for us.”
Mahindra’s entry will mark a significant milestone: the first full-fledged deployment of India-developed electric SUVs in the UK, a market that saw BEV registrations surge nearly 40% year-on-year in the first half of 2025. While Mahindra has yet to confirm which models will spearhead the launch, the BE6 and the XEV 9e will definitely be the ones heading there, targeting key metropolitan regions including London, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki’s eVitara shipments commenced last month. The initial consignment of 500 units aims to gauge consumer preferences before scaling exports to over 10 European markets by year-end.
