The Thar 5-door could be revealed sometime in August this year.
The Mahindra Thar 5-door has been long awaited and new spy shots confirm that the rugged SUV is likely to get a soft-top version. This seems natural as the 3-door version is available with both a hard and soft top.
The new spy shots show the Thar 5-door parked in what appears to be a dealer stockyard along with various Mahindra test mules. However, as mentioned earlier, the biggest takeaway is the likelihood of the soft-top version. Interestingly, the camouflage on the roof makes it seem like the Thar 5-door will get a dual-pane sunroof. However, the concave nature of the roof as well as the camouflage hints that it is the soft-top version of the Thar 5-door. Having a soft top could imply the roof could be folded down
Previous spy shots of the Thar 5-door have hinted at the fact that the hard-top version will get a single-pane sunroof that will be placed between the two rows of seats, rather than above the front passengers as is the case with almost every other vehicle in the market.
The Thar 5-door is expected to come with features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, rear AC vents, dual-front armrests and more. While not confirmed, the Thar 5-door could get six airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, hill hold and hill descent control and more.
Under the hood, the Thar 5-door is expected to share its powertrain options with the 3-door version. It will likely come with a 1.5-litre diesel, a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with the option of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. The Thar 5-door could also get rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configuration like the 3-door Thar. Expect Mahindra to reveal the Thar 5-door sometime in August.
