This time the spy shots indicate the size of the 5-door Thar.
Mahindra is gearing up to launch the 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar and it has been now spotted next to its 3-door iteration. While we’ve seen the 5-door Thar earlier, seeing it next to the smaller version lends a perspective on its dimensions. Furthermore, the spy shots also shed light on the interior and features of the 5-door Thar.

The 5-door Thar is likely to be around 300 mm longer than the 3-door version, roughly the same length as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The added length will also result in a slightly longer wheelbase to accommodate the rear doors and leg/knee room for the rear passengers.

Apart from extended wheelbase and length, the 5-door Thar will get a different and slightly larger grille, LED headlamps, 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, redesigned bumpers and LED fog lamps. The rear doors of the upcoming Thar will also be mounted on the C-pillars. The Thar 5-door will also get a single-pane sunroof but interestingly, it will be mounted between the first and second row of seats, rather than directly above the front passengers. It will also get front parking sensors, which along with the sunroof, aren’t present on the 3-door of the Thar.

Inside, the Thar 5-door has a refreshed interior compared to the 3-door. The upcoming model will likely get Mahindra’s new steering wheel and 10.25-inch touchscreen that debuted on the XUV400 Pro range. It will also get a brown interior theme, a digital instrument cluster, auto-dimming IRVM, push-button start/stop on the steering column, rear AC vents, dual front armrests and more.

The Thar 5-door is also likely to get six airbags, while the 3-door version only gets two. Other safety features on the 5-door Thar will likely include ESP with roll-over mitigation, ABS with EBD, hill-hold and hill-descent control, among others.

Under the hood, the Thar 5-door will have the same powertrain options as the 3-door version except for the 1.5-litre diesel engine with the 6-speed manual gearbox. It will get a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol engine that will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
