Mahindra & Mahindra has trimmed the Thar range in India, discontinuing several variants in a significant product restructuring move. Sources confirm that the company has removed the Convertible Top variants, the AX 4WD variants, and the LX variants equipped with an open differential from its line-up.
The Thar was previously offered in 19 different variants. Following this revision, the number has been reduced to 11. As part of the changes, the entry-level AX trim will now be available exclusively in rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration, powered by the 1.5-litre diesel engine. Despite the discontinuation of select variants, Mahindra has kept the Thar’s overall pricing structure intact. The model continues to be priced between ₹11.50 lakh and ₹17.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The range now tops out with the 2.2-litre diesel LX AT Earth Edition 4WD variant.

The variant rationalisation comes amid Mahindra’s preparations for a mid-cycle update to the Thar, internally codenamed W515. Scheduled for launch in 2026, the facelifted Thar will reportedly feature styling cues from the recently revealed Thar Roxx edition. Expected upgrades include a larger infotainment touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, and a factory-fitted sunroof available on hard-top variants. No mechanical changes are anticipated with the facelift.
