Mahindra Thar OG: Variants Explained

Mahindra has launched the refreshed Thar facelift, now officially branded as the Thar OG, with introductory ex-showroom prices starting from ₹10.32 lakh.

Available in three variants, the updated SUV gets a host of new premium features, especially on the top-spec variant. Here’s a complete rundown of the Thar OG’s variant spread.

Mahindra Thar OG AXT - ₹10.32 Lakh Onwards

Serving as the entry-level variant in the Thar OG lineup, the AXT trim is offered exclusively in a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration paired with the 1.5-litre diesel engine and a six-speed manual gearbox. On the outside, it rides on 18-inch steel wheels and features halogen headlamps alongside LED tail lamps. Inside, the cabin gets vinyl upholstery, driver seat height adjustment, rear AC vents, rear USB-C charging ports, a rear demister, and a second-row armrest with cup holders. Mechanical traction assistance comes in the form of a brake locking differential.

Mahindra Thar OG LXT - ₹12.99 Lakh Onwards

Positioned as the mid-spec tier, the LXT variant builds upon the AXT's features by adding 18-inch alloy wheels, fabric seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, power windows, and front USB-C charging ports. Technology and parking aids are enhanced with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone mirroring and rear parking sensors. When chosen in four-wheel-drive (4WD) guise, the LXT further incorporates selectable terrain modes, an electronic locking differential, front axle disconnect, and a washable floor with built-in drain plugs.

Mahindra Thar OG ZXT - ₹13.99 Lakh Onwards

The range-topping ZXT trim serves as the flagship variant in the Thar OG range, introducing 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a full LED lighting package. The cabin features leatherette upholstery and a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel for a more upscale feel. Additional convenience and safety equipment includes a wireless smartphone charger, front parking sensors, a rear-view camera, and six airbags for comprehensive occupant protection.

Mahindra Thar OG Engine and Gearbox Options

The Mahindra Thar OG line-up provides buyers with three engine choices, including two diesel units and one petrol. All variants are available with these three engines, taking the total configuration options to fifteen.

The range begins with the 1.5-litre diesel engine developing 117 bhp and 300 Nm of torque, and this engine is available only with RWD layout.

Higher variants offer Mahindra's 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 150 bhp and 330 Nm, alongside a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit generating 174 bhp and 300 Nm. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard across all engines, while the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol motors can also be opted with a six-speed automatic transmission.
