It looks as though Mahindra is preparing a major onslaught of announcements to mark India’s Independence Day this year. Following the Vision.T teaser and Freedom_Nu platform announcement it released a few days ago, the company has now published the first glimpse of a vehicle or possibly a concept codenamed Vision.S. The social media post also points to an event happening in Mumbai on August 15, where we can expect these vehicles to be showcased, and possibly other major product announcements made. More details are likely to be trickled out over the next month and a half, in the runup to August 15.
While details are scarce, Mahindra’s latest teaser does use the phrase “muscular presence”. The video, which is partially obscured, appears to show a top-down view of the front of this vehicle. Very little about it can be discerned – there’s no profile of its stance, giving any hint of its body style or size.
One strong possibility is that this will be the anticipated electric Mahindra Scorpio. The naming scheme could continue what the company has done with the Vision.T, which is likely to be an electric version of the Mahindra Thar, based on the previously exhibited Thar.e concept.
In such a case, all signs point to a “Vision.B” announcement in the near future, which would be an electric version of the Mahindra Bolero. The company has previously indicated that it is working on electric versions of these two models. Previous speculation suggested they would be based on the same INGLO platform as the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e, although now it appears that a new platform called Nu will be announced at the same time.
Interestingly, the purported upcoming Nu platform might not be exclusive to electric vehicles. The teaser previously shared by Mahindra’s SUV division indicates that this platform could serve for EVs as well as ICE and hybrid models. Set to be manufactured at the company’s Chakan facility near Pune, these cars would help Mahindra strategically expand its portfolio to cater to a variety of use cases and price points.
Mahindra could unveil as many as five new vehicles at its August 15 event. This won’t be the first time it has made major announcements on Independence Day, following last year’s Thar Roxx launch and 2023’s Vision Thar.e showcase and Born Electric logo reveal.
