Mahindra XUV 3XO EV gets a 39.4 kWh battery pack that promises a real-world range of 285 km on full charge.
Mahindra recently launched the XUV 3XO EV in two variants — AX5 and AX7L — priced at ₹13.89 lakh and ₹14.96 lakh (both ex-showroom), respectively. The all-electric version of the XUV 3XO EV sits below the XUV400 in Mahindra’s lineup of electric vehicles. In all probability, the former will replace the latter.
Both vehicles are underpinned by the same platform which has been derived from the Ssangyong Tivoli. As a result, the XUV 3XO EV and the XUV400 share plenty of similarities. At the same time, they are different from each other in several aspects. Let us find out how the Mahindra XUV 3XO is similar and different from the outgoing XUV400.
Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and XUV400 shares their design with their respective ICE siblings — XUV 3XO and XUV300 (now discontinued). It should be noted that the XUV 3XO, launched in 2024, is a comprehensive facelift of the XUV300. So essentially the XUV 3XO EV is a facelift of the XUV400 with very different styling.

At the front, the XUV400 adopts a more upright stance, featuring sharp rectangular headlamps linked to the fog lamps by a copper-finished trim. In contrast, the XUV 3XO EV presents a more aggressive and contemporary design, with hexagonal headlamps that extend into the bumper and incorporate the fog lamps, complemented by thicker cladding on the bumpers and along the sides.
Along the side profile, there is little to distinguish the two models aside from the XUV 3XO EV’s shorter overhangs. Both SUVs share the same 2,600 mm wheelbase, although the 3XO EV also offers larger 17-inch alloy wheels on the AX7L variant. It must also be noted that the XUV400 is 300 mm longer and 17 mm taller than the XUV 3XO EV. At the rear, the XUV 3XO EV appears more contemporary, thanks to a full-width LED light bar and a chunkier bumper with copper accents, while the XUV400 retains conventional taillamps and a cleaner, more understated bumper design.

It’s very difficult to spot the changes between the two once you step inside their cabins. Everything including the dashboard layout, steering wheel, centre console, drive selector, and infotainment system are identical. Even the infotainment OS remains unchanged. The only small difference is the boot capacity of the two models, the XUV 3XO offers 364-litre boot while the XUV400 gets a 378-litre boot, owing to its longer length.
That said, the XUV 3XO offers more modern equipment with additional amenities such as a 7-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, front parking assist, and a panoramic sunroof.

Underneath, Mahindra XUV 3XO EV and XUV400 are identical to the core. Both SUVs get the same 39.4 kWh battery pack that sends power to a front-mounted electric motor. This motor delivers a peak output of 148 bhp and 310 Nm of torque. Mahindra claims that XUV 3XO could return a real-world range of 285 km on a full charge whereas the ARAI-rated range of XUV400 stood at 351 km.
The acceleration time from 0 to 100 kmph is 8.3 seconds for both electric SUVs. Even the charging times are identical, with the battery taking 6.5 hours to get charged from 0 to 100 percent using a 7.2kW AC charger. A 50kW DC fast charger can rejuvenate the same battery pack from 0 to 80 percent in 50 minutes.
Mahindra offers the XUV 3XO EV in two variants — AX5 and AX7L — priced at ₹13.89 lakh and ₹14.96 lakh, respectively. On the other hand, the XUV400 is only available in the top-spec trim priced at ₹17.49 lakh (all prices ex-showroom), making it ₹2.50 lakh more expensive than XUV 3XO EV.
